Ruijin - Visiting Foster Family Home

As if all this wasn't special enough, the foster family wanted to take us to their home where Anna spent the first year of her life.

The director, other staff from SWI, foster mom, dad, brother, the guides and us got in 2 cars for the trip. Their house is way out in the country. It was a bit of drive from the city of Ruijin, then once we turned off the road it was even further. This was land they farmed. I am not sure all that was growing but part of it was blueberrys which they said went to the US, and peppers. It was such a pretty setting. Just 10 days prior to this, the family had taken an apartment in Ruijin but they still have the house and his 94 year old mother lives there. The father built the house himself.

These were some of the sights we passed and the road we were on.

This was the house Anna spent the first year of her life.

This was room Anna slept in.

Two moms visiting. It was amazing how well we could communicate without speaking the language.

We took a stroll down to the pond....

to do some skipping of stones across the water.

Another picture to give you idea of the land. The woman is a secretary and the director. It was so nice to have them along. I am sure they needed to get back to work but there was no rush. They seemed to be enjoying the day as much as we were.

This is something you don't often see. We saw this on the road to their house. We understood it to be making of chop sticks from bamboo. It is laid out to dry then stacked.
