Ruijin China - March 23

We got an early morning flight to Nanchang from Xian and arrived about 10:00 AM to meet our guide Janice and the driver. It would be about a 6 hour drive to Ruijin. This was our guides first time to go to Ruijin and to be a guide for someone returning to visit orphanage. She asked a lot of questions.

When she realized we had not had breakfast, she suggested we stop restaurant and just picked one. This is area that does not often see Westerners. Janice picked some dishes and we had a great meal. Lot of people gathered around the car as we left saying good by.

On the drive to Ruijin, the driver had a bit of trouble finding gas. From what we could understand gas is rationed or a shortage. The places did not want to sell to us. Also there was something about they expected prices to go up within the next couple of days. We saw lot of truck waiting in lines. When we got the gas, the driver did lot of talking, waiting and smiling and later learned he told them he had some very important people in the car. This was another time I was glad we had a guide.

Our guide had bit of trouble finding our hotel. As it turns out there are number of Ruijin Hotels. The first one we went to was a little outside of the city, down an alley, then into a driveway and area that looked very nice. There were 2 new hotels there. The one we were directed to had to military guards outside. Our guide went in and found out this was not it.

We soon found it. We had heard from people who have visited before that the hotel was not great and it wasn't it. The staff were great and we had a nice dinner there with our guide and driver. They ordered some wonderful dishes.
